International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO)

The International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) is celebrated around the world on 17th May each year. The day of protest began in 2004, and has been held every year since. This year, IDAHO events will be held in more than 60 countries and IDAHO aims to call for respect for LGBT people worldwide.

There will be a display in the reception area at the College on Thursday 17th May. Come along and take a look at the information about homophobia and what to do if you, or someone you know, is a victim of hate crime.

Higher Education Information Week

HIGHER EDUCATION INFORMATION WEEK

During the week of 30th April we have a different local university coming in each day with an information stand in the advice and guidance area between 10-1pm – please come along and ask questions and gather information from them.

In addition to this each of the universities will be doing a general talk on ‘Why HE?’ aimed mainly at those of you who might be thinking, or be eligible, to apply for HE entry 2013, to take place between 12.15pm-12.45pm in the ELC in Pod 1. Please see the timetable attached for who will be doing the presentations.

Please can you attend one of these if considering higher education? Maximum capacity of the pod is 18.

Also on Wednesday 2nd May 7-8.30pm we have our HE Information Evening for students and parents – invitation letters have gone out to students for this via Personal Tutors – if you are a mature student and wish to attend please let me know.

Literacy is important!

Literacy is important!

Having good levels of literacy will support your studies and improve your future employment prospects.

During the week commencing 23rd of April the College is celebrating Literacy Week. There will be a variety of activities taking place across College.

On Monday 23rd we will be giving away free books in the IAGE area near the main entrance from 12-1pm – hurry while stock last.

On Tuesday 24th there will be a six word story competition with a chance to win a prize.

On Thursday 26th we will be bringing the Library out into the College and issuing Quick Reads from the IAGE area - don't forget to bring your College ID card to borrow a book.

All week we will be running a book exchange in IAGE and there will be other activities, competitions and displays in the IAGE area and activities and games on the VLE.
